  • Great app, but where is Files integration

I’ve been using this software since the beginning and it was sort of my unofficial file system for my iOS devices. Now that there is a Files app in iOS GoodReader could really benefit from integration with it. This app hasn’t been updated in almost a year, and we keep hearing about version 5. Is there a timetable for its release and will it have Files integration?
  • Better than nothing but long in the tooth

I'm tired of waiting for the mythical massive new huge release! I've been a user since iPad 0 was first released and this used to be a 5 star app. Now not so much. Lately I've been using PDFExpert which is somewhat less long in the tooth and has an excellent sftp sync feature but lacks a number of nice features that I routinely use in Goodreader. What finally propelled me away from Goodreader? I got a mid-2017 MacBook Pro which came with High Sierra and the APFS and no longer are shares available over AFP which means only sync'ing directly via SMB but Goodreader apparently uses SMB V1 and file names on the Mac with various, previously legal, characters like "?" and a few others can not be transferred by over SMB and thus the entire sync'ing of a 15,000 volume library is messed up. And that's how I ended up trying PDFExpert which has no problem sftp'ing for sync. I really miss a lot of Goodreader features but can not keep waiting for the mythical new release - 2 years or more in the making.

Like slipping on a pair of old comfortable slippers, launching into GoodReader always brings a smile to my face. I’ve been using GoodReader for PDF reading since iPad rev1 and it’s always been stable, intuitive and discoverable, easy to use and reliable. It’s gained a lot more utility over the years and I can’t recommend it enough. Thanks GoodReader team!

I would be lost without it.
  • One of my favorite apps

This is an outstanding application. It has one main task: reading and annotating PDF files, and it performs that task flawlessly. It helps you organize your PDFs and works seamlessly with iCloud. The annotation tools (such as highlighting, adding notes, etc.) are intuitive and useful. It has wonderful character recognition capabilities, enabling you to search for words within your document. Bookmarking is available and very useful. I have recently been downloading a number of Google Books PDFs, such as digitized versions of 18th Century English magazines, and I’m amazed at how well GoodReader can interpret the sometimes distorted digitized letters. This app has saved me dozens of hours of work and it is well worth whatever the price is. I’m looking forward to seeing what they add for Version 5.

The developer's claim that they are working day and night on a surprise massive update is not plausible. time to move on.
  • Crop feature has memorized and is applying my last crop to all new documents

The crop feature is Supposed to memorize crops individually for each document/file; mine has memorized my last crop and is applying it to all my new files, and, when I try to adjust the margins, only the vertical margins work (horizontal is locked). I am using an iPad mini 3 with good reader version 4 and IOS update 11. I hope this will be a simple fix, e.g., not a restore or going to a computer, etc. I hope someone can help, since Goodreader is the most useful app I’ve ever used and the one I use most, so I am LOST without it. My 5-star rating is for its usefulness, not just in editing PDFs, but for its file organization, folders, etc. Goodreader is the closest IOS APP to mimicking windows/Microsoft Words file system (folder organization), which nothing compares to. Plus, I haven’t run across anything that I use that I cant save to Goodreader. I wouldn’t be using IOS if it weren’t for Goodreader! (My phone is now an android because of its customization qualities.). The things I would fix: help/search -Implement a function that returns “relevant” info to one’s query instead of a non-alphabetical list of what someone thinks you need help with. Apply cropping to pages instead of documents/files (so you don’t have to create a separate doc/file for crops that only apply to one page. I’m thankful for the app.

This app does poorly in viewing pictures.
  • No password protection

Files cannot be password protected. That means if you email a file to someone it's not secure. That's a deal breaker for me. I did confirm this with the developer who was quick to answer my questions so I give app support 5 stars. I also appreciate that this app isn't subscription based.
  • Good, looking for an update

I loved this app. I used it regularly for management of PDF files while in a high stress environment and it is stable and functional. I use it for personal use as well and for downloading my personal music and audiobook collections to my iPad for long commutes. I look forward to an updated user interface though. It is difficult to read in daylight. It also does not completely block access to webpage downloading and viewing, so I cannot put it on my children's iPad and know they will be safe. This used to be in the top 5 best apps I have on my tablet and phone. The time it takes to get an update in unsustainable. There are some tweaks I look forward to seeing in an updated version, but I will probably move to another similar app that has more features. It has been over a year since I contacted the developer and they have yet to release any updates to bugs that I've pointed out. It quickly dropped out of my top 5 as functionality decreased with the age of the app.
