  • Not User Friendly....at all.

This app was not user friendly in any aspect. Editing songs was a huge hassle. I ended up spending more time making songs look right than practicing them. Huge waste of money...

I initially input full documents of many songs as individual songs, and that freaked it out so it shut down a lot. I'm now going thru the long process of inputting each of those songs individually, hoping that will make it shut down less frequently. So far I have two things that really annoy me: 1) When it decides a song is in a key different than it is, so the chords you see in edit mode are not the same chords you see when looking at the song. This drives me crazy. 1.5) It would be great to be able to split a song into multiple keys and not have it auto-change the chords. 2) It would be SO helpful to be able to insert photos similar to sticky notes. I am a visual learner and write notations to indicate the melody or my own shorthand for riffs/strumming patterns. I would love to be able to insert photos into the songs in order to have this important information all in one place. I haven't used the app much because it's been months of me inputting all my music the way I want it, and still relying on my paper music instead. I'll update this review in another few months when I finally have everything in and have switched to only using my iPad.
  • Quirky!!!!!

I love the program when it works! Has a mind of its own to often. It needs stability! I use pdfs and word docs. Zoom has mind of it's own. It won't scroll to bottom of page half the time! When you need it the most it fails! I'm looking for something that works. I am so done with this app! And yes, I'm using the latest version. And yes, my iPod is up to date too! 6/15/18 meant to say IPAD. All my songs are “word docs” or PDF. All my docs are “courier new” size 10. All I want from On Song is storage and display. The program is quirky. I can’t trust it for a gig setting. I have about 5 books created and the songs seem to migrate to other books mysteriously. I like the set list stuff. Zoom and scroll to bottom of page is my biggest problems.
  • Wonderful when it works

This app has helped our worship team transition to a fully digital format and streamlined my task of arranging the music as well as the lyric projection. I use it to wirelessly control my multi effects via Bluetooth MIDI. Unfortunately, it is not the most reliable, hence, the 4 star rating. We normally have one iPad controlling the other iPads but sometimes, one iPad would lose connection and the musician would have to manually move the screen to the next verse. It would sometimes move to the next song when all we wanted was to select the next verse. If during rehearsal, I change the arrangement to help with the flow, I cannot beam the set again until I close the app and try and try again. Another quirk is that if I switch to another app and then switch back to OnSong, OnSong crashes.
  • Lots of features! But crashes often.

I’ve had onsong for about 2 years now and I love it. It has amazing features. It works best if you link your accounts to chord websites. I use songselect and planning center. There are lots of other useful things I use like the autoscroll and metronome features as well as the playback feature where I can link a track from iTunes or Spotify. However, this feature hasn’t allowed me to get signed into my Spotify account and properly let me link a song for a few months now. Hopefully they will fix this soon. The most important bad feature, and reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5, is because it crashes so often. On my iPhone 7 Plus, the crashes about 1 in 3 times that I open it. Especially if I double click home to quickly go to another app and then double click again to come right back. It’s frustrating during practice but could cause real problems in a live setting.
  • Insufficient documentation

I’d like to use the MIDI editor, but there’s insufficient documentation on how to use it and more importantly what it can’t do. Example, I want to do program changes to my Yamaha Montage and if I want a bank other than General Midi, it doesn’t make the change. I also had to waste a lot of time getting it to work with my Bluetooth midi interface. Update: Although I figured out the reason I could not change patches on my Montage and I have viewed the videos, I still maintain my original title. What I’ve also learned is that it isn’t just OnSong lacking in their documentation, Yamaha is also to blame. In addition, OnSong support is also lacking. You don’t get the folks who really know the product, but rather a messenger. I guess I’m just old school as a retired IT specialist of 43+ years.
  • Great program. Eliminate big heavy song book

Great program. Support service is excellent. Kendra very quickly answered my support question. The recommendation worked great🤙🤙🤙 I have a lot of people at our ukulele club using OnSong. I am so happy with the product and excellent support. I only recommend OnSong to our members and other clubs that ask when they see us setup our iPads. They have their big book that loves to make their stand fall over and the music fall on the floor.
  • Full of features and bugs

I want to like this program for its many cool features, but it’s slow, buggy, and crashes frequently. And when it crashes, my set lists disappear. Lovely. The only saving grace is automatic backups which I then re-import. I only bought OnSong to collaborate with a friend who is using it. But I think I will go back to SongSheet Pro — not as many features, but it’s stable and reliable.

This app is hands down amazing. I’ve been using it for nearly 5 years now and it I now one of the sole reasons I have an iPad. I know you are thinking “this app is so expensive” if you are looking for an app to organize all your music, transpose keys, change keys according to capo, and organize set lists for your whole band then for real invest the money. The OnSong staff is supper supportive and have always gotten right back to me if I have any questions. The app is very clean and easy to use, yet still jam packed with amazing features. I use this app on stage at least twice a week and I wouldn’t change a thing. I can’t play without it now. BUY IT. It might expensive but in the grand scheme of things it is so so so worth it. I recommend it to any instrumentalist, ESPECIALLY if you are performing on stage.
