  • Repeats same articles

Repeated the same 5-10 articles in a loop. Choosing any of the dynamic options for more or less of that toe make no difference. Once that’s fixed it’ll be a great news app.

No longer requires sign-in to use the app. 5 stars for that alone, for now. ==> Still checking out the app; but just scrolling through the Headlines list of stories stutters badly on an iPhone 5s, even after turning off Auto-play Videos in the app’s own settings. Previous review: This app requires signing in from the start to see or do anything. That makes it a non-starter for us. (The previous “Google News” app, now removed from the App Store, does not require sign-in.) We keep seeing media articles elsewhere praising the supposed goodness of this replacement app, but they don’t mention that sign-in is required. So we foolishly keep coming back to check it out, several times now. Maybe having taken a moment to write this review, I’ll remember not to waste my time. Even if we were really willing to sign-in, not sure which of our various Google accounts we’d end up having to choose to use with this. Certainly not my own primary account, and we’re not willing to create yet another Google account at this point. (We haven’t tried out Google Assistant for the same reason.) After reading through the most recent, critical, detailed user reviews, we’re not sure we’d actually want to use this app anyway.
  • App is at times great, but often infuriating

I have used the Google News app almost exclusively since it was called Google Play Newsstand. Over the last few weeks, I have migrated more and more over to the Apple News app. My biggest issues have been resets and looping. Looping: I start reading a story, set the phone down or move my attention to a conversation then come back to my phone to discover that the article I was reading had closed and the app had reset to the home screen. That article is no longer shown on the home screen list at all. Resets: Stories on the home screen loop endlessly, the same 12 to 15 stories appear in the order as I scroll time after time no matter how far down I scroll. I will continue to try to use this app, if only out of habit, but it has fallen behind the Apple app in terms of user-friendliness and usefulness.
  • Does not refer to a browser with a reader

The old IOS Google News would open items in IOS Safari which has a Reader. The new Google News only opens in IOS Google Chrome which does not have a Reader. That makes the IOS Google News app worse than useless.
  • Make that one star - incredibly sluggish

After using this app a little longer, I have reconsidered my original review of two stars. Now, I am downgrading this terrible app to only one star... I didn’t think it possible, but the new Google News app is even more sluggish than the original app - what an incredible disappointment! Poorly designed navigation, jittery scrolling, slow screen loads, and still no text-only view with adjustable fonts and colors - welcome back to the bad old days. But hey, at least Google finally fixed the article sharing arrow that has been broken for multiple releases in the original. Google, if you are smart, you will fire this product management team immediately and find a group that actually cares about user experience!

No place to request support on the app. Seeing same stories over and over through scroll. Not the first time this has happened

I stopped using your service cues since it does not fit on my iPad or iMac.

This is an excellent try at an alternate news format.
  • Google News Is Best For Tech News

I enjoy the Tech News on Google News, the most. Google products are advancing at a fast pace, so I get caught up with features and opinions. But when it comes to political points of view, Google has some main stream favorites that have let me down. I read one or two news articles occasionally, just to get the hype that they are pushing, as a way to understand those who believe it word for word.
