  • Great content, buggy app

Several issues with the audio playlist functionality. I like to listen to the audio version during my commute, but don’t want every article, so I use the playlist functionality. Problem is the app will randomly remove downloaded editions, which deletes my playlist. Another issue is that following the most recent release, you can’t toggle between tracklist, which shows all the articles in the week’s edition, and your selected playlist. I have just started listening to Audible on my commute rather than dealing with the glitchy Economist App.
  • Lots of Recent Improvements

Greatly appreciate the recent improvement in the app, particularly the audio edition. On an iPhone, if an alarm goes off when listening to the audio edition, the app must be force-quit and re-launched to continue listening. The swipe ad is, perhaps by design, very easy to accidentally click. I unintentionally click the ad every other time I launch the app. Consider a slightly protruding iPhone case - it’s difficult to get your finger to the very edge of the screen. Feature request: Ability to see, when listening to the audio edition, where I am in the overall list. The app used to have this. Where did it go?

Audio has stopped working reliably offline. Night reading only works intermittently.
  • Where else

Economist, Thank you for improving your app. The audio version has definitely improved; I can now save my position in an article even after closing my app for many hours (previously unheard-of). The issues also don’t delete themselves when I restart my phone.
  • Gets worse every time

I like this newspaper but the app gets worse with every update. Weird freezes, crashes, pictures that won't zoom, ads that don't load and lock the app, failed downloads, insistence on redownloading issues that have already been downloaded before you can open them again (has happened to me on a flight 😖), etc. Given the recent uptick in corrections and an app that gets worse with updates, I'm worried about the long term survival of this newspaper. They are losing their attention to detail.
  • Don't download

First time user here - the app takes forever to download editions on wifi and data. I find it annoying I can't look through and read certain articles. It also loses your place when you log out. Read on a laptop or on the website if possible
  • Needs 1.25x audio speed

1x is too slow, 1.5x too fast, 2x unintelligible. Please provide a 1.25x option Otherwise, great.
  • All the pleasure, none of the guilt

The Economist digital edition for me solves the biggest problem with the print edition - the guilt associated when you can’t plow through every print article in a week. I read on the iPhone and the ability to scan and then swipe to the next article makes it. Readability is good and navigation is straightforward. I do wish that for each article, it would track where you last were - swiping forwards and then back resets your reading position to top of article. Also, rotating between portrait and landscape and then back again miscalculated your reading position. Small niggles for what I believe is a better way to read The Economist.
  • Still has dark mode bug but at least iPhone X support finally here
