Google Translate for Japanese and Hindi is inaccurate. In Japanese, the translations are so bad that native people are confused. In Hindi, the translations are downright obscene or complete gibberish. In a situation with an elder of our area, his speech was translated as ‘I’m the only one who loves you.’ Of course he didn’t say that in front of his wife and my children. He is not that kind of person. The app messed up on translation. In building relationships with locals, I often tell them that my phone says ridiculous things. When attempting to translate ingredients on packaging, the translations are nuts- yesterday I translated a yogurt carton and it said it had 13 lightning in it. This is using the offline translation, which I had updated that day. While I am learning Japanese, I need an app I can rely on for accurate translations. I cannot rely on Google Translate. I would advise you to find something better.
  • Wonderful app

This app has helped me find words I haven’t used in a long time, just didn’t think of them anymore lol. Then… it translates everything perfectly for me every time so far! I have to admit I didn’t use the speaker feature yet and after reading some of the other reviews, I will certainly need to give it a try. Might make things a little more interesting and fun, plus I’m eager to find out now how it does. Anyway… I love the app and it’s great that it was free, not much is anymore!!! :)) Thanks Google, Nicola :D

Firstly, when they did updates for the Haitian language they terminated the voice translation in the Haitian language from Haitian to English. Now you can only read the translation text in the Haitian language but not hear the voice in the Haitian language anymore. Next, when you take a photograph of a Japanese character or Japanese line in the papers, for instance, the message or attempt to translate it into English will completely be scrambled up. And also, the hand writing section to be able to write a Japanese character won’t give you time to finish a character. Too many caveats and is far away, really far from getting close to a human translation is going to take time to have a real translator. As a tool to learn languages for instance it has too many limitations but probably you can get some out of this app

when translating between english and french (what i use it for) the french grammar is almost always off if its more than 1-2 word(s)... kind of annoying but whatever. still useful.
