  • One of the best podcast manager

    By us_spin
I have been using Downcast for several years now. The application does a great job in organizing and managing podcast so well that it has forced me to stick to iOS! I dabbled with other podcast tools on Android a while back and gave up. The application, in all fairness, has had its up and downs. It used to crash frequently whenever a new release came out indicating lack of proper regression testing. However, in the last few months this has been addressed. The best part— and the most vexing part— of the application is the capability to synchronize across devices. I do that frequently across my iPhone, iPad and MacBook. The iCloud synchronization feature has existed in the application for a while now but it did not work too well. Way too often I would find an older version from my Mac overwriting the more recent version of a construct I have made (for example, podcasts in a playlist). This problem seems to have been addressed late last year. The only major gap that I see in the synchronization process now is the transfer of “manually sorted” podcast play list across the devices. This should be relatively trivial to do but not sure why the developers have not addressed it as yet. The application has all the standard features that you see on applications of this type. A number of other reviews have listed them so I won’t bother repeating them.
  • Streaming drops when using homepod

    By Bobkess
Love this app but find streaming to homepod from iPhone x not consistent and stops playing and has to be reset. Anyone else have this problem?
  • Buggy

    - The option to change the manual skip doesn't work correctly. It managed to change back skip to 15, but forward simply will not change. - When returning to my car Bluetooth (or leaving it) the app performs very inconsistently. It will not resume playing automatically (unless it feels like it). Other times it won't even resume playing from the iPhone control menu (unless it feels like it), in which case I have to open the app itself and the player is never first on the screen for some reason. I also get more random pauses than with other apps - Visually kind of hard to grasp even after a week. Customization is lacking for a paid app.
  • Back to being a great, multifaceted and functional app

    By Father Huck
No complaints, great support, does exactly what I want it to do.
  • Excellent podcast player

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Especially handy is variable speed playback feature. You can also stream podcasts live instead of downloading them. This App supports video podcasts as well. Leave a $ tip through an in-app purchase if you're a long time user.
  • Best way to listen to podcasts

    By Skreba
So many more features than I would ever use for podcasts, yet simple enough that I can find the ones I want, set them to automatically download, then delete themselves when I'm done. Love this app. Even more so now that I figured out how to manually add podcasts when needed.
  • been using this for years

and it just gets better and more reliable with each update. love it.
  • Used to be good, lots of bugs

    By Birdcalling
I bought this app a few years ago because I was tired of ads but now there a lot of issues. Any time I receive a call on Bluetooth either from my headphones or my car and return to my podcast it doesn’t auto play I have to restart. downcast says it’s processing things a lot before it plays but basically I need to force quit to get it going again. Turn by turn navigation effects the audio playback just the same as a phone call does. downcast can only show the first few podcasts on Apple CarPlay. On Google Home the app will often start playing the podcast from the phone after 20 minutes while keeping it playing on Google Home. And playlists make little logical sense. I’m gonna have to shop around for a new audio app because I listen to podcasts often when I’m driving and I can’t be fiddling around like this. I was hoping they’d fix these bugs after years but they haven’t. Disappointing.

Latest version drains the battery on my iPhone 6 iOS 11.2.5 EXTREMELY FAST. Have reverted to Apple podcast app until fix.
  • Bluetooth connection problems

    By Ryker Robert
My favorite podcast manager by far. Recently however it has stopped playing through my car stereo via Bluetooth. It has worked perfectly before. Follow up; Bluetooth connection issues are a car stereo issue not this app. Still by far my favorite go to app for podcasts.
