Description

The Minimoog Model D App is a mobile transmutation of the world’s first portable synthesizer, the Minimoog Model D®. Optimized for use on all 64-bit iOS devices, anyone can jump in and play with over 160 included presets or lay fingers to the controls and begin exploring vast magical realms of creative potential. Taking full advantage of the iOS platform, the Minimoog Model D App incorporates a number of inspiring sound creation tools and capabilities not present on its analog antecedent. New functions include the ability to play chords with up to four-note polyphony, an easy-to-use arpeggiator for rhythmic pattern creation, a real time looping recorder with unlimited overdubbing capacity, a tempo-synchronizable stereo ping pong delay module, and the Bender -- a wide-range stereo time modulation effect module. The Minimoog Model D App also supports AUv3 Audio Unit extensions, which allows multiple instances of this powerful instrument to be used simultaneously within compatible iOS apps like Apple’s GarageBand®. A BRIEF HISTORY Introduced by Moog in 1970, the Minimoog Model D served as the archetype for all electronic keyboards that followed. It gave users the ability to design their own sounds, translating imagination into reality. The Minimoog’s portability, affordability and accessibility made it the go-to instrument for musicians looking to expand beyond the traditional sounds of the time. Bernie Worrell used the Minimoog Model D to establish Parliament Funkadelic’s futuristic funk sound. Kraftwerk employed the Minimoog Model D on the successful concept album Autobahn, sparking an entirely new genre. Gary Numan replaced his live band’s guitars with Minimoog Model Ds, creating the prototype for industrial music. The classic sound of the Minimoog Model D can be heard on Bob Marley’s Catch A Fire, Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Dr. Dre’s The Chronic; Detailed in the mini-doc series “A Brief History Of The Minimoog”. It sounds so good that before I go to bed I turn de arp on, add some delay and close the filter. Then I sleep. -Since it can be polyphonic, I think it would also be nice to add a paraphony option. On the 37 sounds awesome but with 3 osc it would sound amazing. -The arp is very nice but basic. If it could have a swing function it would be perfect. Yes we can add delay, but a swing arp with delay...yeah. -There is something wrong with the resonance when turned to the max and closing the filter slowly with no osc on, sounds extremely harsh, I suspect not like what it was intended to sound. Is there any chance to see some of these features implemented in the model D app? :) I own different hardware from moog and this app is a beautiful sounding synth, I love it. Thank you friends at moog!
  • Excellent Sound, Lacks a Couple of Features

The sound in this app is excellent and quite close to the hardware it’s based on. Polyphonic capabilities are a nice addition and are well done. The are only three things that I find lacking. There is no ability to create my own categories or move a user created patch to a new category. There is no INIT patch to use as a convenient base for making patches from scratch.

Holy cow! This synth is sooo good! One of the top 3 iOS synths for sure. Moog has painstakingly put together a world class app in the Minimoog Model D. So much care, consideration, and expertise in its many features. Sounds amazing!! Read the manual online!!! — very important for getting the hang of this beast!

E@siest to work with for beginners! Emulated very well! I hook up through Apollo twin record in Ableton add sum plugins. Makes sum epic sounds...you can even Buy ape matrix to can put multiple moogs in the same app and make an even more awesome sound!
  • My only caveat...

The issue I have here is, although it has polyphonic mode, notes will still cut each other off. It’s only polyphonic if you press multiple keys at exactly the same time. I guess a lot of people play solo style riffs, but I always play synths more like a marimba with the notes hanging after release. I have the same problem with the model 15. If there’s a setting somewhere let me know. If not, devs, please consider adding. Edit: looks like this functionality was added! I contacted support a few months ago, and whether or not it’s a result of my efforts, model d now has normal polyphony, and has the best raw sound of any iOS synth.

Powerful, diverse, amazing capability to create and modify sounds. Though maybe more limited, I find this much more suited to the iPhone small screen format that the Model 15. I have all the Moog apps and they are all worth the investment for the return on joy and sound discovery. Would love to have real hardware, but they won’t fit in my carry on so this will have to do.

Hey people of Moog, you really have done a really nice job with this app. I’ve seen app let me select sample rate, I clearly choose 96khz but when I use looper to record something I’ve seen that the exported file has an audio quality of 44.1khz with 16 bit of resolution. Can please you let us choose those parameters of real time quality and export quality? I actually use this app for profesional purposes. Thank you so much for reading.
  • OK for what it is

The interface on an iphone is too tiny for precision knob twisting, and the lag time for pressing keys is significant. A step sequencer would improve the value greatly.

So much fun This app gives that great sense of wonder and exploration in finding sounds old and new on a fantastic analog electronic instrument.
