When I first saw this app, I got excited and downloaded it but then realized that you had to PAY for the app to work. Please let it be free to play the app.

After being duped a few times with kids games because the games turned out to be adware, I always approach apps that my children ask me for with a high bar of skepticism. I have a 7, 4, and 3 year old. The first thing that I look for is the publisher. I’m an iOS app developer myself, so I know how this works. If it’s an individual publisher, I am very skeptical. If it’s a company, then I feel a little better knowing the verification process to get on the App Store. This was a company, so that passed my first test. I then look at the reviews for the application. First point is that people were complaining about the subscription model. I’ll get to that in a second. But the big positive flag that I saw in the reviews was that the developer was responding. Legit developers respond to customer feedback and reviews, so those two things made me think that this would be ok to try. We’re in day 2 of the free 7 day trial, but I think that the developer can count on converting my family. About the subscription model, there’s monthly or annual subscriptions. Don’t be turned off by the subscription model. It’s about the only way that developers can make money on the App Store. You want quality games with updates. Developers want the same thing, but it takes money to support their business and this is the only way Apple lets them do it, so please give this developer and this app a chance. Onto the game. We’ve hit a bug or two in the first day, but they were minor. Killing and restarting the app fixed it. So far, my kids are on a pirate adventure theme. What I like about this being a software developer is that it has a very much coder-like feel to it. The kids are presented with a map and direction arrows or activities like digging. They need to logically walk through the map, figure out what to do, and “code” by placing the steps and activities onto a timeline in order to get the character to do what they want them to. This is an excellent interface. My kids love it and don’t even realize that they are learning to program. As a software developer, I love these games! They’re fun and they’re teaching kids STEM, focusing on logic. Way to go devs! Brilliant work! This is a good game so far and my kids are enjoying it. They’re not being bombarded with ads. It’s safe and friendly. Definitely check this app out. This company is going to convert my family into a subscriber and I look forward to many great new adventures for my kids in the future.
